Release #2 The Glenrothes Dow’s 1992 Rare Single Cask
After an initial selection in Scotland from 25 of the most interesting Glenrothes casks HSH Prince Albert was asked, in April 2016, to make his selection from just three in the Palais Princier in Monaco. Surrounded by Members of the Monte Carlo Whisky Society the HSH Prince Albert discussed the merits of each of these highly unusual expressions and after considerable debate chose that of the Dow’s Port Wood finish from whisky distilled in 1992. This cask now becomes only the 2nd bottling in the Grimaldi Collection.
The cask chosen was the Dow’s Hogshead cask yielding 322 bottles. Unchill-filtered and natural in colour these Wine Merchant Casks are bottled at natural cask strength ABV 57%, adding further intensity and distinctiveness to this unusual, limited expression of The Glenrothes.
Tasting Notes by Charles Maclean, Whisky Writer and Master of the Quaich
“Deep amber, with distinct cerise lights. Mellow nose-feel, plain fondant with marzipan; traces of dry cedar wood cigar wrapper. A rich, dry nose, developing notes of fruit cake with traces of cooking spice. Smooth texture; rich taste, dried fruit with a chocolate aftertaste. At reduced strength the taste is sweeter, with a slightly bitter finish and peppery spice in the aftertaste.”
